A short synopsis
During a residency at Gasworks, London, Catalina Bauer created a participatory workshop titled Networkshop. This involved her working with a group of women developing a series of “rounds” of collective weaving that were developed through a process of observation and experimentation. The video work Give and Receive is an exploration between the experience of participatory work and its visual and formal potential.

This involved her working with a group of women developing a series of “rounds” of collective weaving that were developed through a process of observation and experimentation. The video work Give and Receive is an exploration between the experience of participatory work and its visual and formal potential.
The rounds shown in this work were designed specifically with the intention of being viewed from above. The framing of the video which largely excludes the participants gives the work a strong geometric and graphic quality that highlights the rhythm of coordinated movement.
For this work the participants were professional dancers; Natalia Bakulic, David Deflores, Ana Manriquez, Carla Romero, Carlos Palacios, Natalia Pizarro and Isabel Ramirez (all dancers of the Chilean choreographer José Vidal company).
To Give and Receive was exhibited as part of Round, a solo exhibition at Die Ecke Gallery in Santiago, Chile 2013 and later the same year exhibited in Incessant, a solo exhibition at Cecilia Brunson Project in London, UK.
