Study for a jungle (in times of pandemic) 2026
1 of 8
A short synopsis
The film, shot largely during lockdown, is a quintessential lockdown movie, made in the creator's back garden. At the same time it's trying to pull off an audacious trompe-l'œil by suggesting it was shot somewhere far far away, altogether more vast and exotic. The viewer will have to be the judge of whether it succeeds.
A short film, that to steal a phrase Jean-Luc Godard once used about one of his own films, feels like it was found on a scrap heap. To be precise, the film was made from camera tests used for the basis of another film.
Shot on a modified handheld camera that can only see infrared light, the images were a test in producing a much more naturally organic digital aesthetic, something new, alien, somewhat other worldly.
The film, shot largely during lockdown, is a quintessential lockdown movie—trying to pull off the audacious feat of suggesting an exotic natural location while actually being shot in a tiny 2x4-meter patch of the creator's back garden. You'll have to be the judge of whether it succeeds in this game of trompe-l'œil.
